Term 2 Welcome

02/11/2020                                                           Welcome back

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you and your families had a restful half term, we are delighted to welcome students back into the Academy on this first day of term with many students and staff feeling refreshed during their break. As you will be aware, we embark on exams and mock exams this week. Students received their exam timetables and revision materials from teachers last term and we trust their hard work to revision will make this exam season a success. It is important we continue to prepare for the government`s intention to sit exams in the summer 2021 so thank you for your continued support with this.

In light of the recent announcements from the Prime minister and the pending restrictions from Thursday I would like to confirm that schools will remain open within the CLF and support this statement:

The Government will continue to prioritise the wellbeing and long-term futures of our young people and will not be closing schools, colleges or universities. It remains very important for children and young people to attend, to support their wellbeing and education and help working parents and guardians. Senior clinicians still advise that school is the best place for children to be, and so they should continue to go to school. Schools have implemented a range of protective measures to make them safe.

The Prime Minister and Education Secretary have been clear that exams will go ahead next summer, as they are the fairest and most accurate way to measure a pupil’s attainment. We therefore need to keep schools and colleges open so that children are able to keep progressing towards exams and the next stage of education or employment. Students now have more time to prepare for their exams next year, as most AS, A levels and GCSEs will be held 3 weeks later to help address the disruption caused by the pandemic.

The CLF Post 16 will continue to monitor the safety of staff and students with strong protocols and we ask for students to continue to inform us of any symptoms and tests results pending of family members. We will continue to see the cases in Bristol rise and it is important that we complete track and trace fully to ensure we mitigate against the risk of transmission.

I would like to update parents that we have received a positive result from a Post 16 student in the half term holiday. The students who would be classed as a close contact have been informed and are now self isolating until Thursday 5th November.  Staff continue to use strong hygiene protocols to keep learning safe and support all students. We will be moving to an enhanced precaution from Monday 9th November and require – All students and staff to wear a face covering during social times or when they are moving around on site and in transition periods. Exams also require students to wear a mask on entry and departure.  These face coverings should be kept in a plastic bag when not in use and washed or changed regularly. In the event of an exam or learning not being possible for self isolating students we are fully committed to support the learning remotely through e mail or Teams invites. Staff are working hard to include students to join these sessions, please let us know if this is proving difficult to access for your child.

We are confident that with these measures in place, we will be able to continue to bring our students everything that they need to survive and thrive.

Yours sincerely

Kath Cooper
