FAQ Parent Communication
Coronavirus (CO-VID19) Frequently Asked Questions for Parents
When the Academy is open…
1) Should my child attend Post 16?
If your child is not presenting with symptoms of CO-VID19, then the current government advice is to continue to attend school. The NHS website (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ ) details CO-VID19 symptoms as:
- A high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
- A new, continuous cough – this means you’ve started coughing repeatedly.
2) What is the school doing to reduce spread of infections?
- Routines for regular handwashing, including when pupils enter school.
- Reminders to staff and pupils on the importance of washing hands.
- Increasing social distancing measures. These include: No whole school assemblies or gatherings of large groups of students. Students to attend lessons only, all independent study time to be at home to minimise risks. Increased hygiene at lunchtimes.
- Our cleaning company are maintaining high standards and our school staff are supporting additional cleaning of commonly touched furniture (door handles).
- Pupils having own stationery and reducing sharing of equipment.
3) If I, as a parent, have underlying medical health conditions, should my child attend school?
We recommend that you seek medical advice via your GP, specialist doctors or 111. They will be best placed to advise on the risks to your own health if you child continues to attend school.
4) If a member of my extended family, who does not live with us, has underlying medical health conditions, should my child attend school?
We recommend that they seek medical advice via their GP, specialist doctors or 111. They will be best placed to advice on the risks to their own health if your child continues to attend school. However, if the relative does not live with you, and your child is not presenting symptoms of CO-VID19, we anticipate the advice will be to attend school.
5) Can I come to the school office and meet with staff in school?
Yes. If you are not presenting with symptoms of CO-VID19 and not self-isolating, then we can continue to meet. However, we would prefer that most communications are via telephone or email where possible.
6) Should I inform school if my child or a member of our family is self-isolating?
Yes. We need to know if your child is self-isolating. It is also helpful if we know that a member of the family is self-isolating. We would like to support you and your family’s needs. Please call the attendance line (0117 9927117 or email: [email protected]).
7) Should my child still come to school, even if another member of the household is self-isolating?
Yes. Similar to above. The current government guidance should be followed and school attendance is permitted if they are symptom free.
8) Will I be informed if a child or staff member in my child’s class or the school has Co-Vid19 and is self-isolating?
No. We would not be able to share this information due to General Data Protection Regulations. Parents should remain respectful and considerate if they notice a member of staff or student is absent. The staff may be self-isolating; they may be supporting a family member who is self-isolating or they may be absent for an entirely different reason not related to CO-VID19.
9) Will my child be able to have learning resources from school during self-isolation?
Yes. We have the following link to a SharePoint available for our school: http://www.clf.uk/shl
Click on Post 16. Staff will also be sending e mails directly to students, equally student are able to e mail their teachers to obtain the work and maintain their learning.
In this folder, you will find year group year 12 and year 13 folders with each subject;
- Lesson plans
- Lesson resources
Please note the Class Teacher has prepared these materials for whole class lessons. Student will be expected to complete the work set, but there will also be opportunity to discuss the session on line.
During closure
1) How will I be informed if there is a closure?
We will communicate via our usual methods, which is the via e mail parent call and there will also be notification on the Academy website. If we do not have current accurate contact details for you please let us know ASAP.
2) Will the school fully close or partially close?
We have indicated previously that depending on staff capacity (i.e. our staff’s own health and their family’s health needs), we may find ourselves in a position whereby only some year classes remain open.
3) Will the school provide teaching and learning materials?
Yes. Please see answer to question 9 in ‘When school is open’ section. Staff will prepare revision materials for students to support the coming summer exam season.
4) Can I keep in touch with the Academy or will the school keep in touch with me?
The Post 16 Academy will regularly update the website and use parent call with any updates. We will welcome communication from families and we have set up class email accounts linked to teachers for families to send in questions about learning or share outcomes.
We will also have Academy mobile phone numbers that will allow parents and students to keep in touch with the Heads of College`s and also the attendance officer and safeguarding lead. These will be circulated in the event of a school closure.
5) How will be informed of the school’s end to the closure?
Please see answer 1) in ‘During closure’ section the same method will be adopted.
Yours faithfully
