Curriculum
As a student of Sport you will develop an understanding of the body’s systems and understand the impact they have on performance in sport. You will study the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory and energy systems as well as additional factors which affect sport and performance. The anatomy and physiology of each of these systems and their processes are very different but we will learn how they work together to create movement and support us in sport and exercise. You will also learn about additional factors around lifestyle that can impact on these body systems, such as smoking and alcohol.
You will use your understanding of the way the body works to explore client screening, lifestyle assessment, fitness training methods and fitness programming to support improvements in a client’s health and wellbeing. You will study the process required for screening clients and assessing their lifestyle and nutritional intake. You will discover how to interpret this information and from this you will explore how to make judgements on a specific individual’s current lifestyle and then suggest modifications to help improve the individual’s fitness, health and overall well-being. You will then learn about fitness training methods and learn how these link to each component of physical and skill-related fitness. You will choose the appropriate training methods for a selected individual and plan their application into a training programme.
As a sport student you will also experience the scope and breadth of the available career opportunities in the industry. You will have opportunities to practice the steps needed to follow a chosen pathway in sport. You will encounter people from different areas of the industry and use their knowledge and passion for sport to open your eyes to future career opportunities.
