Sports Coaching

NCFE Level 2

Curriculum

As a student of Sport, you will develop an understanding of how to participate as a team member and individual in a practical sporting event. You will develop your understanding of a range of coaching strategies to enable you to train others. In doing so you will develop your awareness of tactics and skills necessary in a range of sports, including football. You will take part in practical sports activities and apply this then to developing a coaching approach that could lead to planning and hosting an organised sporting event.

You will also explore the range of careers available within the sport industry and engage in work experience and volunteering activities.

The curriculum will be co-delivered with Total Pro-Soccer to offer a football development programme. This will enhance player skills, coaching skills and provide opportunities to enhance employability.

Progression

On successful completion of this qualification, you could progress to a Level 3 National Programme in Sport, Personal Training and Coaching qualifications or an apprenticeship in leisure or sports coaching.

Gym instructor, Personal Trainer, Sports Coach, P.E. Teacher, Physiotherapist, Sports Massage Therapist, Self-employed Sports Coach, Sports Therapist, Nutritionist, Outdoor Activity Co-ordinator.

Entry Requirements

Students must achieve 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including in English and Science.

Assessment

The exam board is NCFE. Assessment is a combination of practical, presentation and written work.

Opportunities for work related activities

Throughout the course, students will engage in practical projects, planning exercise programmes and running events as well as undertaking work experience.
