Business and Information & Communication Technology (Level 2)

BTEC

Curriculum

As a Business and IT student following a three-year sixth form route, you will study a range of qualifications;
• Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Business
• Level 2 BTEC First Award in Information and Communications Technology
• GCSE Maths and/or English

BTEC Business

At the beginning of our course, students will be introduced to the world of business: how businesses work, what they do, trends that affect them, how they operate and the factors that could determine whether they are successful or not. The unit also enables students to develop their entrepreneurial skills by developing a business idea for their local community. Students will learn about the costs involved in business and how a business makes a profit, how a business plans for success and to avoid financial difficulty, and how to put together financial statements. We will also explore the role of branding and promotion within business, allowing the learner to develop their own promotional campaign.

Information and Creative Technologies

During this course students will become technology savvy – producers of technology products and systems and not just consumers of them. Students will develop a broad understanding and knowledge of the Information Technology sector and some aspects of the creative industries eg. electronic publishing or multimedia production. Through studying I&CT, we will investigate the features and uses of websites by exploring what they are and how their integrated components and applications interact with each other. You will also learn how to design, develop and test a website for a brief.
