A Message from the Principal Post 16

Dear Parent/Carers
I hope all families are keeping well and beginning to recover as the restrictions have reduced from COVID . Please note that the current position is that we will continue to maintain all of the processes and protocols that we have in place and that have protected us well so far (social distancing between staff and students, social distancing between uniformed students and our students, masks where 2 metres distancing cannot be maintained, ventilation of all rooms, excellent hand and touch point hygiene etc).
We will also be reintroducing lateral flow testing on site due to a reduction in testing figures from students. Every Monday between 8 and 10 and every Thursday between 2 and 4, staff and students will be able to be tested on site with no need to pre-book.
Please do encourage your son/daughter to get tested as catching asymptomatic cases early is a key part of our strategy in ensuring that Post 16 remains a safe community for all.
The Teacher Assessed Grades for students are ending and we as a centre are ready to send the final Teacher Assessed Grade to the board. I would like to bring some confidence to all families (parents and students ) that in Post 16 we have adopted a very rigorous, fair and holistic approach to awarding grades for students. There have been very strict protocols on teachers from the exam boards and we are not permitted to discuss individual grades as this could be deemed malpractice and place the centre at risk, so thank you for not asking or contacting any staff regarding this matter.

All teachers for all subjects are using a range of evidence that will support the evidence we consider for TAG`s, staff have shared this evidence record with students . This has been moderated by another subject expert, we then look at other supportive evidence from a student across the assessment objectives, we then must consider the grade descriptors for the subject and then teachers make a holistic, realistic judgement about each individual student considering any access arrangements or extenuating circumstances.
Please trust the process, we are very committed to serving the students in a fair and realistic way.
We look forward to celebrating the end of study for the Year 13s in a leaver’s assembly and party (covid risk assessed) on Thursday 17th June 4pm – 8pm and welcoming the CEO for the federation Mr Steve Taylor to share some inspiring words with our students.
A reminder for our Year 12 students that your summer mock exams commence next week, and all timetables have been shared with you in the post before half term. If you have not received this timetable, please contact the exams team via e mail to have another one shared with you [email protected].  Lessons will happen as normal unless you have a timetabled exam.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

Warm wishes,

Kath Cooper
Senior Principal
