Teacher Assessed Grades and Key Dates

Dear Parents/Carers

As we draw near to the end of another Assessment window, we would like to thank you for the support that you are providing to both your sons/daughters and to ourselves.
Assessments have gone well this week and we have been proud to see our students working so hard and giving it their all as they strive to demonstrate their full potential for their Teacher Assessed Grades.
Our staff have been working incredibly hard to support our students to shine and are now gathering the portfolios of evidence that will be used to determine the Teacher Assessed Grades. These will be awarded after a very rigorous process that includes internal and external marking and moderation from a wide range of sources before the grades are signed off by a member of the Senior Leadership Team and then the Head of Centre ( The Principal). Your son/daughter has been supported to understand the Teacher Assessed Grade process so they know how their grades are being determined. Please also see the guidance for this in the link
We will base our assessments on what students have been taught across the course in each subject and this may include work that has been partially completed. Your son/daughter has also completed assessments this term and last term. These will also be part of a portfolio of evidence that teachers will assess to determine an overall holistic grade. We have been careful to support your child appropriately with these assessments.
Students will be informed by their teachers which pieces of work from the course will be used as evidence in a balanced way to inform their overall holistic grade for each subject. This will ensure that your son/daughter is able to show their attainment across as many different elements and depth of the course as possible. Within each subject evidence used to assess the grades will be kept consistent where possible, but there maybe some extenuating circumstances.
It is important to be aware that teachers are not allowed to tell students the grades they will be submitting to the awarding bodies (exam boards). As with a normal year, your son/daughter will know their grades in the summer on results day, which is the 10th of August.
For students who have been disadvantaged, their adverse circumstances will be considered when determining grades. Where necessary, alternative evidence will be used, and your child will be told what evidence is being assessed.

Please be reassured that while the Teacher Assessed Grades process is different to normal years and uses teacher judgement and not final exams,  we are working hard, committing significant time and careful thought to ensuring that the process is strong and fair for every student. We know your child well, their capabilities and the standard of their work overtime. We are confident that we have an approach to the Teacher Assessed Grades that is supporting all teachers to follow closely the Teacher Assessed Grade policy, which is robust and comprehensive ( also attached).

If you have any concerns about the Teacher Assessed Grade process, please do raise them at the earliest opportunity with us via email at [email protected] or by calling us on 0117 9882525.

The arrangements for awarding grades to students includes internal and external quality assurance measures, which will aim to ensure that on results day students are issued with fair and consistent grades that have been objectively reached through our Teacher Assessed Grades process. If you or your son/daughter have concerns, there will also be a nationally guided process through which grades may be appealed when results are issued and we will share that information with you before the summer.
