CLF Post 16 student wins prestigious physics award

Hard work, determination and resilience have seen a CLF Post 16 student earn a special high achiever’s award for his investigative work in physics.

When Ilham Uddin, a Post 16 student, joined the class in September 2023, he had limited experience in carrying out practical investigations and initially found many of the concepts challenging.

However, through his commitment and diligence, Ilham has excelled and been recognised with a High Achievers Award from Salters Horners Advanced Physics (SHAP).

This reflects the hard work put in by the team at CLF Post 16 centre to improve the resources and delivery of paper III — a key component of the A-level physics course focused on practical skills and data analysis — for a number of years.

Practical physics is a core part of the curriculum at CLF Post 16. The programme aims to teach physics in the real world through regular hands-on experiments and investigations.

William Davies, Teacher of Physics at CLF Post 16, said: “I have taught this course for several decades and every year we have successful applicants to top universities such as Oxford and Bristol.

“In all my time teaching, I have never had a student be nominated for this award before so for Ilham to not just be nominated but to win is a huge success for him and the CLF Post 16 team.”

Reflecting on his achievement, Ilham said: “I’m really proud to have received this award.

“When I started the course, I found the practical side of physics quite difficult, but with support from my teachers and classmates I’ve been able to grow in confidence.

“This award has motivated me even more to continue exploring physics and how it applies to the world around us.”
