Edexcel A-Level Course (2-year)

Curriculum

A‑Level Politics introduces students to how political systems work in the UK and beyond. The course develops confident, critical thinkers who can analyse political ideas, evaluate arguments and understand how power operates at national and global levels.

The Global Politics option expands this further by exploring international relations, global governance, conflict, human rights and the changing nature of world power — ideal for students who want to understand the forces shaping the 21st century.

Progression

On successful completion of this qualification, you could progress to a range of University Level courses including degrees in Politics or International Relations, Law, History or Sociology, Philosophy, PPE, or Social Sciences, Global Development or Human Rights.

Civil Service and public policy, International organisations and NGOs, Journalism and media, Diplomacy and global governance, Law, education, research, and political consultancy.

Entry Requirements

  • Students must achieve six GCSE grades or equivalent at 6,6,5,5,4,4 including Grade 5s in English and at least one of History, Geography or Religious Education.
  • An interest in politics, current affairs, debate, or global issues.

Assessment

Assessment is entirely exam‑based, with three written papers combining knowledge, analysis, and extended evaluative essays.
